The plant was lonely; it was the only one of its species. Before now there had never been a compatible pollinator. The pair of flies searched gardens and pastures, obsessively eyeballing every type of flora for signs of a kindred spirit. One day in late May, their eyes unexpectedly met; the next growing season would see a thriving colony of flies in a mass of plants.
