Usually Toad's existence was solitary and contentedly so. But it is midsummer, a time to gather as a coven. They have an annual agreement to convene at dawn, first taking care of any outstanding Toad business, next a ritual (only the Toads know what and why), and then a hasty goodbye. No pleasantries need be exchanged, and no promises will be made of more frequent gatherings; they will simply part ways and see one another on the following years' solstice.
